ATHLETIC NEWS

PARENT PARTICIPATION DEPOSIT FOR INDOOR SPORTS

Beginning with the 2012-2013 school year, a new parent participation deposit for those students who participate in an indoor sport will go into effect. In order to effectively host home basketball and volleyball games, we need the help of the parents of our student-athletes to assist with game duties such as concessions, scoreboard, scorebook, and clean-up. Most of our families have done a wonderful job assisting us with those efforts. Unfortunately, each year we had quite a few instances of workers not showing up to work when scheduled, and this has made it very difficult to effetively host home contests.
In order to encourage all families to sign up and then help out as scheduled, Peace has adopted a parent participation deposit for students participating in indoor sports (excluding Saturday morning basketball). Each family will be assessed a $40 parent participation fee each sports season. That money must be turned in to the athletic director before a student-athlete will be allowed to participate in a game. If a parent, guardian, or adult family member shows up to work at all of the games that they signed up for during the season, they will receive their $40 back in full at the end of the season once the student-athlete’s uniform has been turned in. Each game that a family member does not show up to work for the full duration of their assigned shift will result in $10 being deducted from the parent participation deposit that is returned at the end of the season.
It is not the goal of the athletic department to use this parent participation deposit as a fundraiser. It is our hope and goal that we can return the $40 to each family at the end of each season. The policy is simply designed to encourage families to honor their commitments so that we can host first-class and efficient athletic contests here at Peace Lutheran School.

The complete policy will be published in the 2012-2013 athletic handbook. In the meantime, if you have any questions regarding the new policy, please contact the athletic director.

PANTHER PROWL GOLF OUTING

The Peace Lutheran Athletic Department is proud to once again host its third annual Panther Prowl Golf Outing on Saturday, September 8th. WHAT BEING A STUDENT-ATHLETE IS ALL ABOUT

Below is a a speech given by Kirk Cousins, senior quarterback at MSU, at the Big Ten's annual media day. It is a speech that I believe all student-athletes should hear in order to understand what being a true student-athlete is all about. It truly is a privilege that brings a special responsibility. It takes a lot for a Spartan to impress this diehard U of M fan, but this is a speech that I believe everyone needs to hear. I hope that you enjoy it and learn from it.
